Keeping a pack in good condition

A gummy and a tablet are both made to stay the same until the best before date on the pack, provided the pack is treated the way it was designed to be treated. This is what that means in practice.

Heat is the main thing

Gummies soften above room temperature and can stick together in a hot car or on a windowsill. Once cooled they are still what they were, but they may have merged into one piece, which makes a single piece hard to take out. Keep the pouch somewhere that stays at ordinary room temperature. Chewable tablets are less sensitive to heat, but the same rule applies.

Light and air

The pouch is opaque and the blister is sealed for a reason. Alkaloids degrade slowly with light and oxygen. Reseal the zip after every opening and press the air out of the pouch before closing it. A blister keeps each tablet sealed until you press it out, so there is nothing to do except leave the unused pockets intact.

Moisture

Keep the pack dry. A bathroom cabinet is the wrong place for a gummy pouch because the humidity moves every time the shower runs. A kitchen cupboard away from the stove, or a drawer, is right.

The best before date

It is printed on the back of the pack next to the lot number, the one that finds the batch report. After the date the piece is not dangerous, but we no longer stand behind the figure on the front, because the alkaloid content of a piece drifts down slowly over time. Buy what you will use within the window.

Children and pets

A gummy looks like a sweet and a tablet looks like a mint. Keep the pack where a child cannot reach it, and keep it away from pets. The pouch zip is not childproof. If a child or an animal eats any, contact poison control or a veterinarian at once and have the pack to hand: the lot number and the milligram figure are what they will ask for.

Traveling

Keep pieces in the original pack with its label. A loose gummy in a bag has no label, no lot number and no figure, and it is not clear to anyone what it is.
